"For English, press 1…"
Monday looks to be a flashpoint in the illegal-immigration debate. Not only is it the big "May Day" walkout (or should that be "Uno de Mayo?"), it'll be the premiere of the American National Anthem, Version 2.0: Nuestro Himno. That's right; the National Anthem has been transliterated into Spanish and will be hitting the airwaves to coincide with a rally for criminal rights.
Yes, I said "transliterated." It's not a word-for-word translation, but rather an "interpretation," and a particularly vulgar one, both in execution and intent. New lyrics have been added to this "interpretation," including this little chestnut: "These kids have no parents, cause all of these mean laws … let's not start a war with all these hard workers, they can't help where they were born." You can hear it here. I won't even attempt criticism on its musical merits; it just wouldn't be fair.
This is America. Not Mexico. Not the Honduran Republic or Colombia. Our language is English, not Spanish, and that's the language in which our National Anthem was written. You're welcome to check: all the documents upon which this country were founded were written in English, as are all the laws to this day, and the law is the ultimate authority in this country. Without it, the system does not exist.
To sing the National Anthem in any other language is nothing more than a parody. I would not presume to sing another country's national anthem in English unless I were looking for a fight, and I'll thank others not to savage ours. Yes, I know it's based on an old Irish drinking-song, but it's still ours.
Of course, this is largely political. In an effort to prove that the 12 million illegal immigrants in this country are harmless little worker drones who should just be left alone to leech on taxpayer benefits, pro-illegal groups are trying to prove some sort of "assimilation" into our culture. To this end, they've been draping marchers in American flags and handing out "I love America" t-shirts everywhere they can.
Well, if they're so harmless, then why does a group that represents less than 4% of our population take up 36% of our prison population? Why are Mexican gangs outpacing all other crime sources combined in the metro Atlanta area? It galls to see someone with a "Proud to be an American" t-shirt refuse to speak English. Yes, they do know English; they refuse to speak it because they have no intention of assimilating themselves into American culture. They expect us to assimilate into theirs.
Wake up. These people are the first wave of occupation.
Yes, it is that simple. A nation that cannot control its own borders cannot, by definition, be called sovereign. Vincente Fox is aiding the exodus of illegals entering this country, and when we try to control the problem, he responds viciously in the press. Illegals are encouraged to run to the Mexican consuls in this country, where they are instructed and equipped in ways to remain here and flourish illegally.
These are the actions of a hostile power, and we are doing nothing about it. The President, who in his oath of office swears to "protect the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic," is remiss and ineffectual on this front. In fact, the last six administrations have turned a blind eye to this, and now it has become an epidemic.
In the face of apathy on the part of the Federal Government, several states have taken action on their own, including Georgia. The result has been the most bewildering thing I could have imagined: illegal aliens are taking to the streets, with the support of major labor organizations, to protest this. I suppose they were trying to drum up sympathy. Instead the reaction has been horror.
Even those who never really considered the illegal-immigration debate are realizing what a problem this is. During the last national walk-out, the news media treated the public to such lovely sights as the American flag being mingled with, and often hung second to, the Mexican flag. In several cases, marchers desecrated it. These criminals pulled their children out of school to march, in blatant violation of the law, and yes, we all got a look at how little respect they have for our institutions.
Congratulations, A.N.S.W.E.R.; you've now exposed your true nature to the American public. Keep poking the angry bear. See what happens.
