Tramp Stamps: Hot or Not?

May 20, 2006

You know what I'm talking about: those stupid tattoos women get on the lower back just above the buttocks. They're usually some elaborate "Celtic" circle or a design that looks like flame decals on a '78 Firebird. The one that says, "if these lowrider jeans I'm wearing don't establish my standing as the biggest skank in the trailer park, this tattoo certainly does!"

So, whaddya think? Am I just too much of a prude? Am I the only one can already spot stupidity at 30 yards without needing a diagram on the butt to prove the obvious?

Nope. Still not doing anything for me.

By the way, communication in the English language uses an underlying structure of sentences, which are broken down using puctuation. Ellipsis and all-caps don't count.  I'll refer you to this fine book, which has served millions of high-schoolers since its publication.  Please read it.  Think of the children.

I agree with lynn: it is her choice to win a tramp stamp. And Erik, the plural form of ellipsis is ellipsisiisisies–get it straight. And hat book is not just for high-schoolers; but at least it sounded like an insult.

Actually, Fluffy, we're both wrong! The word in question is actually eclipsis, the plural of which isn't listed. I must therefore assume that the sentence in question should read, "Eclipsilisithingamabobs and all-caps don't count." Thanks for bringing this to my attention!

As for the Elements of Style, you're also right: ignorami of all ages can benefit from it. In fact, it should be required reading for anyone who chooses to contribute content to the interwebs.

My SIL got a sun tatooed on her belly and now that she's pregnant it looks like a super nova. I wonder what it will look like afterwards with those stretch marks running through it.
Certainly tatoos are meant to draw attention to oneself or one's body parts. How one dresses or adorns oneself is as much a form of self-expression as the words we say or our acts and deeds.
What with breast implants, guys who work out at the gym for hours a day, the influx of tatoos etc., I wonder what this generation will look like 30 years from now. A bunch of old geezers with their sleaves rolled up, their jeans low slung, their muscles apathying, wrinkles and sun spots dotting their bodies and all kinds of tatoos running through all of it.
It's simply a lack of integrity and an "all the kids are doing it" thing. We humans are such conformists!
I gravitate towards people who choose their own path, not those who buy into the fads of the day and the media hype that wants us to spend our money on temporal things. I personally, would never get a tatoo now because everyone has one and it gets kind of tired.
Sure, I think some tatoos are nice but these ones that are placed by the rear of someone who is wearing low rider jeans with their thong sticking out are ones that say "look at my rear. Look at me-look at me!"
It's not for me and I do think it's a bit "skanky" but it doesn't come as a surprise- skanky is the way conformists dress now.
