It’s their world, I just live in it.

Left to right: Luna, Dante and Rashid.

Rashid is my sister’s parrot, who’s living here for the time being. The dogs both acclimated to him very quickly, and he has unimpeded run of the house when he’s out. He can be a nasty little cretin at times, but he’s smart enough not to pick a fight with the dogs, and for their part, they just don’t seem to mind.

Luna’s a foxhound mix going on 13. She’s lost most of her hearing, but the only real effect it’s had on her is that, when she sleeps, it’s the sleep of the just. You have to walk up and nudge her to wake her up. If you’ve ever been around dogs, you know how odd that is.

Dante’s a ten-year-old lab mix. Due to the grey muzzle, people often assume he’s the older of the two, but he’s actually had that since he was about two.

At first, I was worried about introducing the parrot, especially since they’re both very set in their routines. I guess I raised them well, because they seemed to accept him in stride. Now if they’d only get jobs…
