Another great holster from Tom Dyer.
I’ve always loved the simplicity and elegance of the classic Tom Threepersons design, but the retention strap can be a bit slow to release under stress. I have a great (and old) Bucheimer rig which resembles the Threepersons design, but upon which the retention snap is on the rear rather than the front.
Hmm…maybe a hybrid of the two was possible. I fired off an email to Tom, and we worked out an idea.
Below is the typical Threepersons snap. It keeps the weapon secure, but presentation from the holster takes two separate steps.
Here’s the way it attaches on the Bucheimer. The snap on the rear allows the user to disengage it by simply pushing down with the thumb while drawing.
Tom’s design allows the gun to be released in either fashion.
I can only imagine the headaches I gave the poor guy.
I had previously been carrying this gun in a gorgeous Yaqui Slide of his, and the engraving on this one is just as sharp:
It’s a marvel, both in utility and aesthetics. I can’t recommend his work enough. Now it just needs a catchy name.
