AT&T news has an interview with Marek Edelman, the last living leader of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising during German occupation in 1943.
Edelman has written about his experiences several times, but they are worth revisiting. Malnourished, exhausted, outgunned and without any external support, a band of determined civilians managed to resist the German forces against overwhelming odds.
The most intense fighting occurred from April 19-May 16. It’s worth noting that Passover observance begins on the same date this year.
(A second uprising took place the following year in anticipation of the Soviet advance.)
Please take the time to read up on this. It’s a harrowing and important piece of human history, and a testament to the ability of the few to resist oppression from the many.
