The Opposite of “Win”

It appears that Adam Kokesh will no longer be a problem for us. US Park Police raided his house in Fairfax last night, and among other things, they found psychedelic mushrooms. He’s being charged with possession of a Schedule I controlled substance, as well as being in possession of a firearm while in possession of drugs.

Though the warrant hasn’t been made public, it’s safe to presume they were following up on a ludicrous video he made on the 4th. In the video, he stood in front of Washington DC’s Freedom Plaza while he loaded an unregistered shotgun with unlawful ammunition. Those are both felonies in the District.

If any of these charges stick, he’ll be barred from owning firearms. The video constitutes a confession on the gun charges, as do statements he made following its publication. Speaking to Alex Jones after posting the video, he described it as “very specifically a call to overthrow the United States federal government.”

Adam Kokesh, Again

Thankfully, Adam Kokesh failed to gather any support for his proposed armed march on Washington DC. Unfortunately, narcissism won over common sense, and he decided to make a one-man video for the true believers.

How many times do you think he practiced that routine in front of a mirror? Part of me expected him to shout “this is Sparta” at the end. He’s not so much a revolutionary as he is a low-rent McBain.

So, he’s committed at least one felony, and I’m sure law enforcement are going to investigate. To be honest, the best way to deal with Kokesh is to do what the gun culture has: ignore him. Sooner or later, he’ll get bored and find a different hobby. As long as anybody humors (or worse, prosecutes) him, he’ll be an icon to the cop baiters, the Free Keane potheads, and whatever other misguided distractions the Millenials are entertaining this week.

How Not to Win, Part III

Adam Kokesh is not our friend. He’s an attention-seeker of the first order, and he’s not above doing whatever it takes to see his face in the media. His latest dumb idea is to stage an open-carry march on Washington, DC this July 4th.

Since it’s illegal to carry firearms in the District, Kokesh’s march constitutes conspiracy to commit a felony. There’s a very good potential for a clash with law enforcement, and it only takes one of these cranks to fire off a round before things turn truly awful for them.

Which means they’ll turn awful for all of us. This event will in no way change any politician’s mind about the 2nd Amendment. It will in no way help our image or our cause in the eyes of the general public.

There’s been a constant campaign afoot to portray supporters of gun rights as mentally-incompetent, dangerous yahoos, and this is only going to feed right into that.
