Clio

My oldest passed away this week. She never knew a stranger, and she was the gentlest soul.

Love them fiercely because our time with them is too short.

I’ve had Maia for just over two years, so it’s time for a new dog.

(A companion, not a replacement. It’s important to make that distinction clear when you bring your existing dog to the shelter.)

So, this is Clio.

The coloring suggests English Setter, but the nose and ears are something closer to a Labrador. We’re off to the vet tomorrow to get a better idea on age and lineage.

Snow Day

When it snows, the wolves come.

Maia Derping

…or at least, Derp Hound. As far as I know, this is the first time Maia’s seen snow. She seems to approve.

Meanwhile, my whole yard looks like a Joni Mitchell album cover.

Stormy Weather

Maia

So, I broke down and bought a smartphone. Now I don’t have to go all the way across the room for internet. What a marvelous future we occupy!

The little blinky squawkbox has all sorts of applications, some of which are truly novel. Google Sky Map is a great deal of fun, and Instagram makes me look somewhat competent with a camera. It comes in handy for capturing moments like this, when Maia decides that the sudden blustery wind doesn’t meet with her approval.

Maia

This is Maia. I just brought her home from the shelter this afternoon, but she’s already settling in nicely.

Maia

Her prior owner (who only had her for a couple of weeks) named her Sue Ellen. That wasn’t going to fly, and she’s taking to her new name (and home) with little complaint.
